Found Acquired, 2025

The 'Birdman' is a Taíno sculpture of a Zemí (deity or ancestral spirit), made in Jamaica between c.1029—1156. It is one of very few surviving Taíno objects from this period.

It was taken from a cave in Jamaica by trader/collector David Rebello in 1792 and later acquired by the British Museum.

The Jamaican government has made efforts to repatriate Taíno sculptures but the UK refuses to return them, citing the British Museum Act of 1963. No British Museum director has ever lobbied for changes to this law.

Windowpane, Re-toured, 2025

In an off-site installment of Windowpane, five postcards are suspended from a steel mount so as to allow the show-through of the paper to reveal both sides of the images.

Each card represents a layer of Dutch landscape as seen from the train, and their hanging form mimics that of a train carriage.
